Refurbishment of X2000 class high speed trains

Our approach

During the tendering phase PROSE acts as consultant for Stadler. In the project, PROSE is responsible for technical project management, electrical and mechanical engineering, approval and RAMS. PROSE will also provide technical documentation services.

Our customer benefits from PROSE’s great expertise in X2000 trains, as part of our team was already involved in the last modernisation 10 years ago. In addition, thanks to the modernisation, passengers will enjoy a completely new travel experience on board Sweden’s fastest trains – with new interiors, new seats and more efficient lighting. The availability of the trains will also be improved. The result is a train set that passengers will experience as completely new.

 

Audit of an ERTMS onboard system

Customer: Banedanmark (BDK), Denmark

  • Performance of the audit of the onboard projects of the Danish Signaling Program for the readiness for fitment

Our Approach

PROSE’s team of experts carried out this audit in less than three months; the audit covered the supplier Alstom, four railway operators, the national safety authority (Trafikstyrelsen), G-ISA and Banedanmark.

Implementation of the approval project for lifting platforms used on tunnel maintenance vehicles

Customer: SBB Infrastructure, Switzerland

Our Approach

In a first phase, the basics for approval had to be elaborated for the two applications. Then, the feasibility was evaluated concluding a proof of stability, but also regarding commercial aspects. The necessary measures were derived here after to ensure safe operation. This report was discussed with the customer and the responsible authority (FOT).  In the second phase, the customer implemented the measures, PROSE controlled this implementation and prepared an evidence report.

Customer benefit

With the practical knowledge of the involved persons from SBB and PROSE, simple, cost-effective and practicable measures could be realized. The step by step process lead to legal certainty without investment before it was clear, that the project will reach its objective. By considering worker’s safety from the very beginning, the approval process could be simplified. Thus, no separate approval with a second approval authority was necessary, reducing time and costs as well as the related approval risk.

RAMS analysis of the Vivalto double-deck coaches

Our Approach

PROSE elaborated the guidelines and the templates to realize the RAMS analysis. Furthermore, PROSE carried out a coach risk analysis and generated hazards (SFAS) relating to each system in the driver’s cab and the coaches.

Customer benefit

Thanks to PROSE‘s extensive experience with RAMS analyses and documentation services, the costumer was able to focus on the design. PROSE was responsible for the project management with the support of Ansaldo Breda’s RAMS office. Therefore, the approval of the RAMS documentation by Trenitalia was simplified and unproblematic. Furthermore, the Vivalto coaches are the first coaches to which CEI UNI 11170 was applied, which means that PROSE, ATI and Trenitalia can benefit from this experience for other applications in future projects.

 

Development of suspended monorail vehicles

Customer: Kiepe Electric GmbH, Germany

Our Approach

In order to overcome the first challenge of creating the optimized vehicle for this particular application, PROSE developed a vehicle body that is constructed from aluminium extrusion profiles.
Moreover, the continuous low floor and wide-opening doors guarantee efficient passenger flow. The new vehicles for the Wuppertal suspension railway also offer high driver comfort.

Given PROSE’s extensive experience in developing mainstream and special projects of all kinds, PROSE’s development team was able to successfully meet Kiepe Electric GmbH’s expectations. Furthermore, PROSE’s intercultural experience and capabilities are highly appreciated, playing a fundamental catalyst role in the current manufacture of the vehicles in Austria, Germany and
Spain.

 

Bogie engineering in Finland

Customer: Transtech Oy, Finland

Our Approach

In this project, PROSE provided a full range of engineering services, including running-gear design for the whole vehicle, calculation of structural strength and durability, and detailed design. Simulation and analysis of running behaviour and measurements on Helsinki tram lines yielded important information on structural stability and durability and on load distribution.

Customer benefit

The result of the eight-month development period for the customer is a compact and robust powered bogie that is specifically suited to both Helsinki’s weather and the tram’s low-floor concept. In this process, the customer was able to concentrate fully on their core expertise, manufacturing, while PROSE took charge of developing all necessary documentation. As a corporately independent service provider, PROSE offered the customer system-oriented skills for the full life cycle of a rail vehicle.

Turnkey Engineering for snowblower

Customer: ZAUGG AG EGGIWIL, Switzerland

  • System engineering incl. consulting and weight management

  • FEM analysis of the supporting Structure

Our Approach

PROSE received the order from ZAUGG to realize, together with ZAUGG’s engineers, the complete mechanical engineering of the main assemblies, base frame and blower mechanics. The placement of the diesel units and hydraulic components were defined in close cooperation. The factors to be taken into account for the clearance gauge were also specified.

Customer benefit

Due to PROSE’s extensive system know-how, ZAUGG received all necessary documents to manufacture, commission and approve the snow blower on their own. With the technical competence in the development of complete vehicles, based on the long experience of PROSE engineers in lightweight construction, ZAUGG could successfully deliver the snow blower as a general contractor.

 

Expert opinion on fire safety for dual-purpose space – air box / shunter’s compartment

Customer: ZAUGG AG EGGIWIL, Switzerland

Our Approach

PROSE’s specialists prepare an expert opinion describing under which conditions the ZRR10000M snow cutter locomotive can be driven in reverse in working mode with the air box occupied. This opinion has been prepared to be submitted to the concerned Swedish authorities. The expert opinion is based on a simple FMEA on the subject of reversing with occupied the air-calming-room. Each case was considered, evaluated and, if necessary, operational or technical measures were defined.

Customer benefit

Since the view of this opinion was shared by the end customer and the licensing authority, ZAUGG has the legal certainty to offer the occupation of the air-calming-room and also knows the conditions for this.

 

Verification of train path price calculation

Project tasks

  • Testing of the vehicle-specific track price calculation
  • Examination according to BAV Document “Base price wear and tear in the track price 2017 – Instructions for the vehicle price determination”
  • Test in the function as recognised by the BAV independent test centre
  • Preparation of a test report and issuing a Test confirmation after successful Audit

Our approach

The track access charging scheme/calculation was tested with various vehicle specific data based on the “Base price wear and tear in the track price 2017 – Instructions for the vehicle price determination”. PROSE applied and received the official recognition by the BAV as independent test center after successful audit. Hence, PROSE is officially certified to perform track access charge analysis for specific vehicles and issue a test confirmations.

Customer benefit

The vehicle-specific calculation of vehicle prices by means of the results of multi-body simulations takes into account track-friendly construction methods of vehicles. This means that the vehicles can be operated with correspondingly lower train path prices.

Expert assessment running dynamics of TramTrains

Customer: TÜV Rheinland, Germany

End customer: STADLER RAIL VALENCIA S.A.U., Spain

  • Creation and structuring of the verifications (in Karlsruhe for the EBO area, in Chemnitz for the EBO and BOStrab areas)
  • Monitoring of experiments
  • Expert assessment for the approval of the two tram trains according to §32 EBO in Germany (driving technology completely according to EN 14363) and in Chemnitz also according to BOStrab

Our Approach

In a first phase, the coordination of processes and the scope of approval with the competent authorities is therefore essential. This often also influences the duration of the approval process, the costs, and the risks. PROSE developed the verification concept together with the manufacturer. In a second phase, the agreed reports to provide evidence were prepared. This was done with the involvement of the manufacturer and the testing authorities. In the third phase these reports were assessed and finally the expert report was prepared

The wide experience of the experts at PROSE lead to an optimal definition of processes and requirements from the beginning. This reduced process risks right from the beginning and ensured adequate stakeholder management. The active process design lead to a solid and target-oriented verification process involving authorities, manufacturers, test laboratories and other third parties. Our Approach

In a first phase, the processes and the scope of approval is negotiated with the responsible authorities. This is essential as it dominates the time and costs of the approval process as well as the risks involved. In a second phase, the agreed evidence is then provided (simulations and tests performed) and evaluated. In the third phase, the expert report is prepared based on these reports on simulations and tests and – if required – represented before the authorities.

Expert report on running dynamics of an Atlas road-railexcavator

Our Approach

PROSE has developed the verification concept together with the manufacturer, witnessed some selected type tests and prepared the expert report based on the basis of the reports on calculations and tests provided.
