Let’s Unite for Progress!
Did you know that PROSE actively collaborates with various associations to unite with our peers of interest? We are aiming for a collective influence on our industry and the decisions that shape it.
This week, we had the privilege of participating in the “VDB-Jahrestagung” (Verband der Bahnindustrie in Deutschland (VDB) e.V. (German Railway Industry Association) in Berlin, dedicated to push the mobility transformation forward in Germany. The highlights discussed were that our industry, the railway industry, is a global hub of cutting-edge knowledge and innovative solutions.
There are numerous ways through which we can shape the future of mobility. Many of our dedicated PROSE-ians are actively involved in working groups within VDB, and other associations in the countries we are active in, contributing to the ongoing development of mobility.
We are constantly seeking challenges and opportunities. How can we support you in your journey? Feel free to reach out to us through our contact details here: https://prose.one/contact/
Together, let’s discover the way for a brighter, even more sustainable future in the railway industry!
Wheelset torsional vibration
Customer: Various customers
Project tasks
- Basic assessment of the vehicle’s wheelset torsional dynamics
- Analytical estimation for dimensioning the wheelset shaft and, if necessary, other components
- Multibody simulations for a more detailed analysis for optimization
- Consulting and support for homologation measurements and support for documentation for homologation.
Our Approach
PROSE accompanies the entire, or single sections of the process chain, from the pre-design of the wheelset shaft over the optimization of the mechanical components up to the execution
of the homologation measurements for the determination of the maximum, dynamic torsional moment. By means of analytical and conceptual investigations, a fundamental assessment of the wheelset torsional dynamics of the vehicle is already carried out in advance, taking into account the dimensioning of the wheelset, the powertrain configuration and drive systems. Based on the preliminary investigations, in-depth analyses are carried out in consultation with the customer using multibody simulation models. On the one hand, these investigations limit
the maximum dynamic torsional moment to be expected, indicate the component loads to be expected and, at the same time, describe other dynamic properties of the driveline. Considering the existing driveline configuration, its design properties are optimized in such a way that the mechanical damping of the first torsional eigenmode of the wheelset is increased, thereby reducing the maximum dynamic torsional moment. The results of the analyses provide relevant information for the system analysis required for certification, which describes the wheelset torsional dynamics of the vehicle. In addition, the analyses are used to determine the vehicle configurations critical for planning and performing the homologation measurements. Finally, the maximum dynamic torsional moment is determined with metrological tests on the vehicle.
Customer benefit
The analyses carried out help the customer to minimize risks in the approval of the wheelsets. The preliminary investigations enable realistic time and cost planning up to the approval of
the wheelsets. The in-depth analyses and component optimizations reduce the stresses caused by torsional vibrations and prevent damage to safety-relevant components during operation. Finally, the identification of critical operating conditions significantly reduces and secures the scope of the homologation measurement.
ECM exchange of experience in Olten
On the 20th of October, the VAP and railbex gmbh are once again inviting participants to the ECM exchange of experience in Olten.
At this exchange of experiences, the experiences and further developments of the EU Implementing Regulation 2019/779 in the context of the 4th EU Railway Package will be discussed.
PROSE-employee Bernhard Frei will moderate the event and our 50% daughter Sconrail will give a presentation on the topic of “Experiences Certifiers”.
Don’t miss this opportunity and register by 6 October!

Successful monitoring audit in Munich, Schwaz and Winterthur
Last week PROSE was successfully audited by SQS and SVS within the context of maintaining our certifications ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and EN 15085.
During the audit according EN 15085 in Winterthur, we were also able to extend our area of application to design for maintenance welding and to purchase and supply for maintenance welding.
With these confirmed certifications, we want to maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise and, in turn, secure industry standards to shape tomorrow’s mobility!

Vöv and General Assembly of Swissrail re-cap
Three days full of impressions, old familiar faces, networking and interesting conversations – that was the 46th General Assembly of Swissrail Industry Association and the General Assembly of Verband öffentlicher Verkehr (VöV).
At the 46th Swissrail general meeting, Swissrail members networked the day before during a hike in the Basel countryside. In the evening, a delicious dinner was cooked together.
After the 46th General Assembly of Swissrail Industry Association, an exhibition platform and the General Assembly of Verband öffentlicher Verkehr (VöV), Federal Councillor Albert Rösti honoured the the event the following day.
PROSE thanks all for the great event and the organisation and is already looking forward to next year in Martigny!
