Have you heard of the very first project PROSE did 40 years ago?

The customer was Elektrowatt CH and the vehicles were the new Light Rail System in Hong Kong.

Our scope was to design the system and elaborate technical specifications for the turnkey project. We also evaluated the bids, made recommendations for the winning bidder, and assisted in the contractual negotiations. Our task included design and manufacturing supervision of the rolling stock, witnessing the test and commissioning of the system as well as consulting in the first operational year and advice on the system expansion.

Thanks to the in-depth know-how of the PROSE experts, that made it possible for the KCRC (Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation) to take the best-suited option for the overall LRT system.

The experience of PROSE was the key to good technical specifications for the rolling stock; realization by the contractor was possible and all technical problems could be solved on short notice, with no impact on the schedule or cost.

Using the PROSE engineers for the design approval in the construction phase eliminated potential conflicts in the interpretation of the specification.

The system, featuring 22.5 km double track with end loops and about 15 high platform stops, 70 uni-directional high-level 4-axle LRV’s, open (honor) fare system, was built in 3 years’ time. Opening (as defined in 1984) was on 08.08.1988!

Let’s take a walk down memory lane…

…to the early days and historical projects.

There are a lot of success stories during the 40 years of PROSE history. For the next weeks, we will highlight a selection of them.

But first, the person that is the reason PROSE was founded: our very own Bernhard Huber

40 years ago, he started the Swiss branch of today’s PROSE, with two employees, now grown into 9 sites in 6 countries. Described in his own words:

“I started with a 5-years planning and analysis of the potential problems. From the very beginning the Engineering and Consulting were the cash bringers of the company. My heart did beat for the railways (and especially for the rolling stock). I am happy and grateful to see, that the company is strong and proud today and ready “to shape tomorrow’s mobility”.

And we are truly grateful for the entrepreneurship and hard work to help bring PROSE to where it is today. It is really cool that Bernie is still committed to and engaged in PROSE!

PROSE-Switzerland at Swissrail Mobility Day in Baden!

Thank you Swissrail for organizing the Mobility Day in Baden!

It was a great day to make new contacts and to see old familiar faces. We used the opportunity to share our knowledge, how we see the trends, and work together to advance our vision of Shaping tomorrow’s mobility.

The participants were able to benefit from the versatile supporting program, which offered a platform for an interesting exchange with its presentations and company pitches on industry-relevant topics. We also contributed to the program with PROSE-employee Dr. Bernhard Frei giving a presentation on “Best practice in research collaboration from an industry perspective”.

PROSE-Sweden at Train&Rail – recap

A big thank you to all who visited us during the train & rail fair in Stockholm this week.

It was interesting to take part in the first-time-ever initiative of a rolling stock fair in Stockholm. A lot of relevant exhibitors and important conversations took part.

Looking forward to the outcome. We are convinced a lot of cool and interesting new projects are around the corner. Stay tuned to hear more.

If you missed the presentation of our documentation system yesterday, feel free to contact Amanda at amanda.werner@prose.one.

PROSE-Sweden at Train&Rail

Take the opportunity to hear about the services we offer. Already a lot of interesting conversations, potential new hires and business opportunities.
We are here all week. Looking forward to meeting you in booth A06:30.

Train & Rail is The Nordic Region’s largest fair for sustainable rail transport. Taking place for the first time at Stockholmsmässan.

Internal event: Electrical Day

Did you know PROSE has electrical departments in both Italy and Austria?

The two sites came together for training days in the Valpolicella hills (Verona) to learn more about the new structure of the department and deep dive into its role in the overall PROSE strategy.

The days also contained training sessions in Brake Systems for non-mechanical engineers.

We are always looking for brilliant people to join. Check out our “Join us”-section to find out more.

PROSE supports you in the maintenance of bogies!

Supplier value chains and maintenance intervals entail a direct influence on both costs and availability of locomotives. One of the most critical systems for maintenance are the bogies, as they are safety-relevant and their components are subject to wear.

Digitalization, such as sensor technology, laser measurement technology, etc., allow a condition-based maintenance (CBM) approach for bogies. Major improvement of maintenance intervals by ECM2 become feasible. To ensure full responsibility, it is necessary to maintain a thorough risk management procedure, including a hazard log. Systematic methods for hazard classification facilitate the independent assessment by an AsBo.

PROSE with Armin Burth as expert offers consulting regarding possible extensions of maintenance intervals, supports the ECM in the implementation of the risk management procedure and accompanies the assessment process accordingly.

This is how we do MBS-calculation

The company ROBEL develops an electric rail vehicle (RORUNNER Level 3) with bogies and two loading cranes for Stadtwerke München GmbH.

PROSE investigates the derailment safety of the rail vehicle in track twists using multibody simulations (MBS) in order to evaluate the current design in combination with the track-side conditions. PROSE created a MBS model of the track vehicle and simulated runs through critical curves with superelevation and maximum track twist.

Silver medal status in EcoVadis rating

PROSE maintained silver medal status in EcoVadis rating!

Also, in this latest EcoVadis assessment, PROSE was able to maintain its rating from previous assessments. And with this result, we stay among the top 25 percent of companies assessed by EcoVadis and are awarded again with a silver medal.

Article “Drei Ansätze zur Verwirklichung von Innovationen”

Read the new article on approaches to implementing innovation from PROSE-empolyee Dr. Bernhard Frei and Andrea Leopoldo Sablone

Modern leaders are transforming their organisations and effectively engaging the ecosystem by:

1. Clarifying the location issue as the core of the innovation approach,
2. Anchoring on both sides the requirements of the innovation ecosystem from the perspective of the company in general and the needs of the stakeholders (especially start-up entrepreneurs) in particular, as well as their contribution to the individual stakeholders in these specific innovation ecosystems
3. Using models, processes and tools to engage the individual stakeholders in the different phases of this ecosystem.

Students from the Technical University of Berlin

At Prose, we value knowledge and we love to share our expertise with young talents.
In January, our Berlin-office had the opportunity to present the different applications of multibody system simulation (MBS) of rail vehicles to students from the Technical University of Berlin (Technische Universität Berlin). Thank you for visiting us!
